Meet Our Permanent Residents
Permanent Resident horses generally cannot be adopted, due to age, illness or injury. They will live out their natural lives, as long as they can be treated to alleviate any suffering. When they let us know that it is time to say goodbye, they are humanely euthanized by a veterinarian. Because these horses are often with us for many years, they become dear to our hearts. They enjoy being petted and loved by the volunteers. These horses could use a sponsor. Will you help?
ROMEO
I was only 7 years old when I was surrendered on 12/14/2014 to the rescue. Unfortunately, I had been through a lot in those short years and was very thin. My hooves were VERY long and my body just looked rough. They noticed right away that I was NOT very social either. The folks here are great and had a trainer work with me for a while in 2017. I learned a little more trust and have been working on that even more since being at the sanctuary. I really am a good guy and want to get to know people better, so come out and volunteer or sponsor me so I can get to know you!

What a lucky gelding I am….. I was only 1 year old when a concerned citizen saw me & filed a report. I arrived at MFMN on 5/4/2016. I had a body score of only 1, emaciated and not cared for. Most likely because of the unfortunate pigeon toe defect of my front leg. I have grown up with the loving care surrounding me here and have lots of friends that do NOT see my deformity. I am sweet & love attention, so come visit me soon!

BEAUTY
Beauty is a 17-year-old Quarter horse used as a broodmare and never broke to ride. She is a little standoffish in the herd but a pleasure to look at. She will live out the rest of her life here with her friends.

Apple is a 19 yr old mare that is totally blind. She came to the rescue in June 2021. She was abandoned by Jen-Jen when a house was sold and the prior owners never came back for them. She loves attention and grooming.

Hera is a 25-year-old Quarter that arrived in 2021 due to an animal seizure from a neighboring county. She is tightly bonded with Penelope who came in with her.

GINGER
Ginger is a 27-year-old Mustang that came to the rescue in 2019 when her previous owner had trouble keeping weight on her. A dental exam showed she has no teeth that match up enough to chew hay. She is impatient when it comes to meals and will bang on the stall gate until dinner is served.

FANCY
Fancy is a 21-year-old American Saddlebred that has been at the rescue since 2014. She has lameness so can’t be ridden but she enjoys running around the pasture with her friends Frosty and Sapa.

DUSTY
Dusty is a 21-year-old Tennessee Walker gelding. He trots everywhere he goes and is a real “ladies” man. He needs a lot of grain each day but will always get it here at the rescue.

CHIEF
Chief is a 25-year-old Quarter horse that came to the rescue in February 2021 when we rescued another rescue taking in 13 horses. He was foundered in the past in the front and hind so is not rideable. He is super sweet, gentle, and loves treats.

BIRDIE
Birdie is a 28-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter Mare that came to the rescue in 2020 due to the sale of the property where she lived. She is blind in both eyes but can get around in her pasture. She will live out the rest of her life with her friends at the rescue.

BARON
Baron is a 26-year-old chestnut Quarter horse gelding. He has few teeth but always lifts his right let when he sees dinner on the way. He is a friendly guy who loves attention and will live out the rest of his life here with his friends.

Atlas is a 17-year-old Quarterhorse Cross gelding that came to the rescue in June 2020 after he was abandoned by a landlord. He has had past chronic founder so cannot be out on pasture. He could be fostered as a companion.

Naomi is a 21-year-old appy cross who came in June 2019. She had problems with her left back leg. The leg is now healed and she loves running up for breakfast in the morning.

Austin is a roan chestnut who is a very sweet boy. He has no chewing surfaces, so he cannot eat hay or grass. He would make a good companion horse for a Special approved home.

Champ originally came from a sale barn. The owner of the sale barn took him home and was not able to get much weight on him. When he came to us, he had a bad oozing abscess on his shoulder and was very thin. As you can see in the picture, the abscess has completely healed and he looks like a Champ.
